The purpose of this assessment is to provide parents, ministers, counselors, and young men themselves, with a professional recommendation for individuals involved in alcohol - drug abuse and/or in misbehaviors and attitudes that permeate the double life. This initial assessment is a free consultation service by Capstone Treatment Center. Our purpose is to help families get the appropriate help for their kids. There are three basic levels of use for adolescents and young adults:
The first level, experimentation, usually acquires parental guidance, fitting consequences, and proper structure. This level does not indicate addiction or a need for residential treatment.
The second level, abuse, is a solid step up in its seriousness and requires a stronger and more inclusive response. We recommend family therapy and a tiered contract system that includes responsibilities and privileges as well as restrictions and consequences. The privileges are earned by fulfilling responsibilities and the consequences are implemented when restrictions are broken. When the contract system does not deter the adolescent from abusing alcohol and/or drugs or when the parents aren’t able to implement the contract effectively, the level of use is then reassessed to be appropriate for residential treatment. At this point the situation is more indicative of the presence of an addiction.
The third level is evidenced by an escalation is use, either by frequency, amount and/or potency, as well as a continued progression in spite of negative consequences. Basically this is a level of behavior that will not turn around without residential treatment. When alcohol/drugs, pornography/sexual misbehavior, or compulsive video gaming are involved this level indicates an addiction. An addiction is an irreversible condition of the brain. For Capstone to admit a young man 18-24 years old his behavior must include alcohol/drug abuse. However, alcohol and or drug abuse does not have to be present to admit a young man 17 years old or younger. The facts of use must be revealed in order to make an accurate recommendation.
The following questions are aimed at revealing the presence or absence of those facts. If the facts are inadequate for Capstone’s staff to make a level of use recommendation, you will be encouraged to discover more facts. The information that is disclosed in this assessment is confidential and therefore protected by the laws and ethical codes as determined by the licensure standards in the State of Arkansas.
There is no financial obligation to submitting this assessment. The assessment will take 10-30 minutes to fill out, so please make sure you have set aside adequate time.
