Stephanie Marlowe, Psychotherapist
Licensed Professional Counselor / LPC
EMDR Part II
MS in Marriage and Family Therapy
PhD candidate in Marriage and Family Therapy
EAGALA Level I
Several years ago Stephanie Marlow was a graduate student of mine working towards her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Today she has completed all of her requirements for her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy, pending her dissertation. That is exceptional achievement in a relatively short period of time and it reflects much about who Stephanie is as a Christian woman and a Capstone therapist. The most poignant quality that I saw in Steph from the beginning, and still today, is that she is willing to look at her self, see her strengths and weaknesses, and grow from there. I coach the therapists, as well as the rest of the staff, that the most important thing in their role at Capstone is who they are. Not what they know, not their degree, not their licensure, but who they are as a person. The vital ingredient to being this type of person is to be able to look at yourself honestly and take action accordingly. Stephanie Marlowe does this exceptionally well.
After a person has developed the quality of going to their personal crucible, their other qualities become beneficial…namely their talent, knowledge, degrees, licensures, and other abilities. Stephanie is a gifted therapist with a strong desire to work in the lives of our residents and their families. As you could imagine, to be a woman working in a treatment center for males takes a very special woman and all Capstone women are special. Stephanie has the respect of the residents because of her character, heart, and desire to make a difference. She will work hard to discover the core(s) of the problem and just as hard to formulate and implement the solutions.
Steph handles a full case load of residents, does four hours of individual therapy with each of them per week, is certified in Equine Therapy (which we hope to add someday with the boys’ program and the future girls’ program…Lord willing as my daddy used to say), facilitates groups quite creatively, and does EMDR therapy when needed. As I write this, I can’t help to be proud of her accomplishments and who she has become as a person and a therapist.
Stephanie has become an intricate part of the team and makes an impact daily. One of my favorite experiences here is observing and talking to therapists about their boys and families while sitting around the staff room. I guess I have this little secret evaluation of every therapist that I do during these times. I see how much they struggle to figure out how to win with their residents and families. In watching this daily process it is obvious how much they care about their guys. Helping her guys change the direction of their lives is very, very important to Stephanie as I’ve seen her search for solutions so intently during these conversations. I am so thankful she is a part of this team, and I hope she always will be. It is awesome to be able to depend on someone like I do her.
Favorite Scripture: Psalm 139, “O Lord, you have searched me and you know me..”
