A Campus With History

“When you’re there you just feel like everything is going to be ok.” Alumni Parent

Capstone’s facilities are in a beautiful setting at the beginning of the foothills to the Ozarks. For many years the focal point of our campus was “The Big House.” Our founder, Adrian Hickmon, and his family lived in this home from 1994 until 2001 when Capstone opened. This was a rock-and-cedar lodge that was in use on our property until 2022.

We have a brand new cabin completed in November 2023. Our cabins have large private showers, comfortable beds, and front porches. Each element in the cabin has been designed for client safety and to optimize diligent staff.  There are multiple storm shelters on campus inside the cabins and within the administration building.

Our mess hall was renovated in 2023

Built of red cedar logs, our mess hall is more than 3,000 square feet with state-of-the-art kitchen equipment and excellent food.

In 2021 we completed a 7,200 square foot administration building on campus. This new facility holds offices for administrative staff, a client care wing for our on-campus nurse, two large group rooms, a break room for staff, production studio, and more. Our next step in construction is to add a full court gymnasium that will ultimately connect with the Administration building. We broke ground on our gym in late 2023 and it will be completed in 2024.

The admissions/therapy building is more than 6,000 square feet, with 15 large offices for therapists, four offices for the admissions team, the admissions director’s office, the clinical director’s office, two meeting rooms and a private lounge for parents. A second office building houses the school room and the education coordinator’s office, a group room and the laundry room. We have added an additional therapy wing in early 2023 that holds 10 therapy offices and another group room on campus.

The 2,500-square-foot weight room is a first-class facility with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, including Hammer Strength weight lifting equipment, Curve treadmills, Precor recumbent bikes and ellipticals, a StairMaster, an arm ergometer and a Concept 2 rowing machine.

Safety

cabin at Capstone Treatment Center, Christian residential programs

All Capstone safety standards exceed the minimum standards in the industry. All outdoor activities are monitored by staff with first aid training, CPR certification and ropes course training. Our strict safety protocol is adhered to at all times.

The Capstone campus environment is calm, organized and well supervised 24/7, which creates a safe experience in activities as well as interactions with other clients and staff. Our protocol for supervision of clients is “eyes on 24/7” (except when the clients are in the bathroom), which means close supervision by calm, confident staff members. There are two cabins, one for the older clients 18–26 and a second cabin for clients 17 and under. The night staff arrive before taking over the supervision of the boys, so they can get a good handoff of information about each boy and the group from the day staff and therapists. There is at least a 1:4 staff-to-resident ratio from 5 p.m. till lights out. Each morning the night staff overlap their exiting with the morning shift of program staff and therapists. The night staff leave a detailed “shift change report” on the residents from their shift. This provides clear and consistent communication about each resident 24/7.

After lights out, there are three night staff who operate the night men station, which lies between and connects the two cabins. These three night staff are awake all night, every night. Each cabin has an extensive system of cameras and microphones, except in the bathroom, to monitor the safety, conversation, sleep and behavior of the clients. To keep the group safe, if residents need to go to the bathroom at night, the night men have to unlock the door. The night men station is also video monitored for quality control. It has a private bathroom for the staff. When residents come out of their bathrooms, they are required to be dressed at least in a T-shirt and shorts. The night men station has two sick rooms that can accommodate residents who are sick or struggling. Many good talks have occurred late at night with these guys. Our night staff are first-class Christian men who want to have a positive impact. It is not uncommon for a graduate to say at his graduation that a night man had the biggest influence on him.

Capstone’s facility is in a low-traffic area out in the country where the clients are protected from anyone being able to bring in drugs, alcohol, girls, etc. There are surveillance cameras all around campus to ensure our privacy and safety.
