Personal Statement about Working at Capstone:
My first thought about doing something in my life like Capstone was voiced to one of my high school friends when I was 15 years old. We were working as counselors at a church camp in Utah and there were a lot of kids there who were “underdogs”. I was one of them. The experience helped so many of us change that it inspired me and I said to my friend, “David, I want to do something like this with my life someday.” Today, when I park at Capstone in the morning, I look around the property and remember when there wasn’t one mow-able square foot of grass on the entire 42 acres eleven years ago. As I sit there and pray, it is easy for me to see what God, through His mysterious ways, has done with Capstone. I am amazed that He blessed that dream into the reality it is today and humbled that he has let me be a part of it. Every week, sometimes several times in a week, I see and/or hear from a Capstone graduate or a graduate’s dad or mom. There is no lack of evidence of grace-powered comebacks for the modern day “underdogs” at Capstone. Its name comes from the passage in I Peter 2:7 “The stone the builders rejected has become the Capstone” so it is not surprising that Capstone is a personal crucible, a refuge, a battleground, a family, a special-ops team, and a holy place of redemption, especially for those of us who work here. And to be a part of it all with the teammates that I get to work with…oh my! My cup overflows for sure!

Personal Statement about Working at Capstone:
Like many watershed moments in life, god opens doors when we least expect one to even exist. My journey began growing up in a small northeast Pennsylvania town where my life decisions and experiences led me down a dark path of my own. I found God in the midst of my hurt and fear and followed a new, long forgotten path that led me to getting a degree in psychology, meeting and marrying my wife, and entering a graduate school program where I was introduced to capstone by Adrian Hickmon. When I found capstone it actually felt like capstone found me. It felt so familiar being with the young men and hearing their stories, witnessing the pain they bore and their attempts to numb it. Now I have a part in giving struggling young men and their families the guidance and permission to look at other paths and witness god open doors that lead to true healing, peace, and connection.

Personal Statement about Working at Capstone:
Over the last decade I have had the opportunity to work with children and teenagers in my church and in a work setting. In 2009 I felt that I needed more training to continue this work and I went to Harding University to complete the Marriage and Family Therapy program. As I was going through the MFT program at Harding I had the opportunity to intern here at Capstone and I was moved by the work the therapist and support staff did in the lives of the young men here. I have felt a calling for some time to work in this type of environment. My heart has always been drawn towards young men, and I have a passion for the outdoors. I was fortunate to get the opportunity to work here and began in June 2011.  It has been a blessing working in an environment with so much support. I truly enjoy working with and serving the young men and their families. I have learned so much in the short time I have worked at Capstone. I feel that this is the place God has called me to be for this season of my life.

I originally moved out here just to help with my nephew for a year. I started working at Capstone during nights and weekends, so I could take care of him while my sister worked here as a therapist during weekdays. So much for only being here a year... Capstone has been a place of growth for me along with the young men I see go through the program. One of the most rewarding things about my job is getting to see clients go through the process of their stay. I love working here because my father was the same as the boys that come here. He made some bad choices and was heavily involved in drugs and alcohol. He never had a place like Capstone to give him that second chance. He lost years to drugs and alcohol.  I like being in the business of giving young men another shot. I know that if there were a place like Capstone available to my father all those years ago his life would have been much easier. I love being a part of a Christian organization that reaches out to young men and their families during some of the most difficult times in their lives. Every time I come into work I know that what we do matters, and I care greatly for the future of every boy that comes in our doors. My father never had anyone there for him when he was at his lowest points in life. I like to be a part of a team that is there for people when they need it and can bring the love of Christ into people's lives.
